JD 1209 Breaking sickle

I recently picked up a John Deere 1209 Mower Conditioner with a broken sickle. We rewelded the sickle & took it to the field & it broke the head again after three rounds. It did not break on the weld. Any suggestions on what could be causing this. It has the older style head.

Dull sections,
Dull and/or misaligned guards and tough to cut grasses + too fast a ground speed can cause it too.
Knife should move freely without binding and propery line up with the wobble arm.
Torque head bolt with knife head in mid stroke.

Wrong guards in the first few locations at the knife head. The knife head has to move fore and aft as it goes thru the stroke. Wrong guards will not let it move.

Looseness in the knife head pin to bushing causes it to hammer and break knife head..

Forgot, older 1209's may break sickles if there are wear plates installed too close to the knife end. Again, the knife has to move fore and aft as it strokes. Should be spelled out in the operators's manual.

Ditto. Had that problem on one of mine and even though it appears
to be slight, it makes a heck of a difference.
