I'm looking at a 504SI baler to run behind my Oliver 770. I would be getting the baler from a dealer. It was a flax baler and was converted back to do dry hay. I've read that these are pretty decent balers-- would it be hard to make it into a baler that could do silage? The dealer says it is set up now for just dry hay-- |

| Those are some of the best balers Vermeer made. The ones with hydraulic bale tension in addition to the springs are best. Does the 504SI stand for Super I or is it referring to the ones made to bale silage? The Silage I dosen't make as good a bale in dry hay. There is a Super I model with extra little springs bekow the big springs but the hydraulic models make better, tighter bales. I have a 505 I, not Super, and it does a very good job, but I would like to have the hydraulic tension model. Silage balers have heavier shafts and bearings, how many I don't know, but any of the models can make silage bale, It's just that making large numbers regularly is not a good idea. A relative just finished making 30+ silage bales with a 605K. He just makes them smaller. KEH |
