Bought a MF 1560 baler last fall, so this is first time for me running it (or any baler). I made one bale, and it worked really well. On the second one, the pickup stopped turning, and I discovered I had a broken hub on the large sprocked that turns the ribbed drum/belt drive for pickup shaft. It had a previous weld that gave way.

However, in pulling out the small core I started, I discovered the reason for the hub breaking was likely because there was hay stuffed between the steel ribbed drum and the square tube cross brace located a couple inches away. It was plugged so tight it took an hour to get the hay out. I noticed that the steel roller has a large dent in it, and I am wondering if the large gap between the drum and the square tube is the reason for hay getting in there and jamming it up.

If so, should it be patched with some iron welded in?

My 605H needs a little extra pressure now and then to latch the gate. Make sure the latch indicator shows latch. PK

the reason it jammed between the drum and that square bar is because your tailgate didnt latch properly. Be sure when you dump the bale and close the gate that it latches properly. Sometimes you have to hold a little pressure on the gate when it closes for it to latch. Just keep the lever down a little longer. Also may need to grease the latches. Had the same thing happen on my 504f and its a pain to get that hay out!!

Thanks for the posts. I have been able to roll up some decent bales since without the same problem.

However I have a new problem now: not all the hay is going into the chamber from the pickup. A lot of it is getting shredded and kicked out in front of the pickup. After I make a bale, there is a trail of shredded hay left behind. The stuff I am baling right now is extremely dry, and I was wondering if that has anything to do with it. I am only going in 1st gear, so too fast can"t be why.

Figured out this problem as well...cutting grass that was cut too short. It was like chaff.

Anyone know how wide the feeder roller rubber strips are supposed to be? Was gonna replace them, as they seem to be very worn and short.
