So a friend bought a white 271 18ft, hyd wing fold, rock flex
disc with 9 in spacing. He plans to pull with an Oliver 1955 it
has the 310 engine but had been updated and rebiult last yr.
dyno at 110hp. Now he has doubts if his tractor will pull it. I
pull a white 252 18ft with a 1850 but my disc has smaller discs
and is 7in spacing and is a much lighter disc. What is you
opinion?

Pulled a 21 ft IH490 seven inch spacing, with a stout JD 830, but it was quite a load. Couldn't get traction if you buried it to the spools. Good match was an 18 ft IH 480 with nine inch spacing. Both new blades. I don't believe he will have any problems, but probably needs duals.

I dont think he'll have a problem. Have pulled IH 18 1/2' disks with my 706 (70hp) and a 966 (105hp). Like the other poster said maybe traction issues if going really deep.

I told him what you all said and his rears are filled andthad two rear weights on each drive wheel, also he told me he is getting new tires all around even the duals. So I think it will be a good match. But I sure wish I had his 1955! I'll snap some pics next time im at his place. Thanks

I've pulled a white 24' disk (can't remember model but has the same spacings as yours) with a John Deere 4520, 4440, and 7020. The 4440 and 4520 are about 130HP and the 7020's about 145. THe biggest problem was traction with the 4520 and 4440. I wouldn't think you'd have a problem with just and 18'
