| A few years ago i did some work for a Kuhn dealer assembling disc MCs, but I don't remember the model numbers. They were well built machines, my immediate opinion which well could be wrong was that they were too complicated. Is the one you are looking a roller conditioner or does it have impellers? The dealer had a roller one in the shop that had a bracket fail on the RH side of one of the rolls. It worked up and down in a slot to adjust as the volume of hay changed and failed because it was cast iron instead of steel fabrication or a steel forging, so I would check that. Another one came in with a bad cutterbar assembly because the owner had filled the cutterbar too full of oil. It developed too much pressure and ruined gears. It was cheaper to buy a new cutterbar than to rebuild it. The factory rep said disc mowers lasted better a little low on oil rather than overfilled. Basically, what you should do is hear the thing run, preferrably see it cut hay but I know that's probably impossible. If a Kuhn dealer has it you can ask more about its history. Oh, there's a couple of gear boxes on the LH side of the machine, under the sheet metal. You can check them for leaks, low oil, excessive noise. There's supposed to be 2 wheel blocks made of galvanized steel carried in brackets on the back of the machine. Probably gone by now. I don't know if the 706 would pull it or not. I think the dealer said a 10 footer needed 70 hp to handle it, but I could be wrong. Some of those machines needed 2 sets of remotes, one to raise and lower the cutterbar, the other to swing the tongue over. KEH |
