This is a shot of my Mennonite neighbor"s "tractor" ?? He uses a 4 horse team to pull it. Stops them every-other round to rest them. He laughed and told me it was 100 hp when we were comparing "tractors" to my Allis WD. |

Laughing all the way to the bank, I might add. They have moved into my area over the last 10 years. Bringing suitcases of cash, paying 3,000 an acre in the beginning, and now $4,000 - $5000 an acre, if you can find it. There's too much urbanization back in Pennsylvania, so their probably getting $10-$20 Thousand an acres back there. As for me, I only have 2 cents, and this was it :-)

They won't get that much per acre now . . . but 5-6 years ago, land in Berks and Lancaster Counties was that high and more. I could have done that from New Jersey, too, but land here that was worth $25,000 an acre won't get a look at $8000 now, and good farmland that was selling for $3500 in other parts of the country is now $8000+ . . . .

Saw some Amish down in KS a few years back pulling an old NH single row silage cutter with a 3-71 Detroit on it! Thought to myself; that must be the tames team of horses to put up with that racket all day!

Bet his hearing is lost after every second round. Look where he's sitting, and where unmuffled exhaust is.

Another thing is he sits real close to that hot engine. They have heat shields on the engine on the driver side. Little sheets of aluminum rivited over the exhaust and other hot spots that he sits next to. All of them use these, I think their made back in "Penn" where they come from.

Yup, he has no hearing. He's pretty deaf. We have to get close to talk or he wont hear me.

I don't recall anything in the good book about God wanting us to do work as awkwardly as possible?
