I have a question about irrigation pumps
can I take a pump off a gas pumping unit and put it on a diseal motor
we are running a V8 ford motor with a berkely pump
am hopeing i can put a similar pump on a diseal motor to help with fuel cost

| In theory you can drive a pump with any engine. You have to match horsepower and speed. |

| What the other guys are saying is important. The pump will require a HP at a certain RPM. The HP requirement will go up above that RPM, and the HP requirement, and thus GPM will go down below that. |

| The RPM is very important, a diesel may not rev up enough with the current gearing to pump well. As the RPM goes up on a pump, the horsepower requirement increases dramatically! |

| Can you, yes. Will it necessarily be that easy, no. I live in cranberry country and guys swap pumps and motors out all the time. BUT a certain size pump will only work with a certain HP rated motor. You may have to make an adapter plate to bolt everything up. The pump may/should have a plate on it saying what HP it requires. |
