We have a new holland 489 haybine that keep jamming. as soon as it gets into hay the bar and real will stop working and act like they are plugging up. as soon as you lift the head and pull out some of the hay it will begin to move again until you try and put more hay through it. any ideas?

I'm betting loose drive belt. The one that goes from the gear box forward to run the drive shaft that goes across to the cutter bar drive. The reel is driven off the cutter bar drive to, so if the belt slips the cutter and the reel would both stop.

You could have a number of problems, which is dependant on the type grass you're trying to cut and the type cutterbar used... standard guards vs no-plug guards. If the grass is low to the ground thick stuff you may need to check your knives, drive belt tension and reel timing. Most Haybines are set up for "normal" conditions. The low short stuff may require some "adjustments". I remember those days trying to get a haybine into heavy clover and rye grass...and concluded that if I was bound and determined to grow that stuff, I needed to spend additional time setting up the machine for the crop conditions.. or buying a disk mower conditioner... I opted for the latter.

If the main belt is tight and you still have trouble it may be the guards and knives have too much clearance and are wedging hay.

I would bet loose drive belts. They will drive under no load but slip as soon as you hit the hay. Check the drive belts out. The reel drive is on the right side and the cutter bar on the left.

Also IS the main slip clutch slipping??? Does the rolls stop when the head plugs up??? If it doe then the main slip clutch is slipping.
