I have a Jd 24t baler-- works well. The parts baler I have has a windrow compressor on it. I was thinking of putting it on the baler I use. Is it worth the time? Has anyone used this model of baler with the compressor on the pickup? Much benefit?

In light hay the one you are talking about will help. In big windrows it will be in the way. So you decide which you have to bale the most of, big or small windrows.

Had the original bar with spring down pressure setup on the 24T, but it was tough to pick-up straw that went thru a rotary. Considered the next upgrade, but decided to go all-the-way and bought the flatbar package that makes the pickup look like an old hay loader. Works great with standard/light windrows, but certainly would restrict too much if desiring maximum capacity. Probably the middle arrangement would be the best compromise.

All JD sq balers were designed to have a compression rack. The rack helps hay feed into chamber better.

Right-- I was unclear. The one I use has I think the standard rack-- straight bars horizontal to the ground. The parts baler I have has a curved compression rack that reaches down to the ground and looks like it would compress more. Just didn't know if it would make all that much difference. I often bale quite thick grass.

In fine grass, alfalfa and straw the compresser helps pick up more hay than the strait bars.It can restict feeding a little in big windrows of long grass. All 336 balers and newer had compressers. We put one on our 24T and would not go back.Yesterday I baled 1040 bales of straw and only had two untied bales when switching twine(my problem not tieing twine balls correctly) not bad for a 24T.

I have seen those. In average hay I think that they would be in the way. In light hay and second cut with little stem, I bet they would reduce the tendency of the hay to roll ahead of the pick up.
