Im lookin at the 4 ft. All Gear Driven Sub-Compact Tiller at TSC

ive read several reviews on here stating a Ford 8n or 600 are too high geared for a tiller.

anyone with any experiences please post.
I would love a tiller, but dont want to buy another tractor.

my brother used his father-in-laws on his 8n and he said it done good. I know it wouldnt do as good as a tractor with low speed gears but just wandering ?

I have the 5 foot on my jd 4300. If I want to really till I go to about 1/2 mph. For medium tilling, 1 mph. and for light tilling 2 and 1/2 mph.
It depends on what you want to do andhow hard the ground is. Cutting the speed down with the throttle does not do it, you need full rpm for best results. Russ

A tiller on a Ford like yours just flat out does not work well due to the 1st gear being way to high. If you had a 650 or 660 which is also in the same series as your 600 which by the way is in fact a 640 model tractor again the 600 is the series not the model of your tractor. Years ago my dad tried a tiller on our 841 which is a bigger tractor but the same as for gearing and he found it was a waste of time $$ and fuel. He even tried the lowest gear of the Sherman combo and that slowed it down enough but the tiller then would not spin fast enough to work well either due to the fact the Sherman also slows down the PTO RPM

Had to run one with a 600 once, so I just put the transmission in neutral, dropped the tiller in the ground and held my foot on the brakes. The tiller will push you as fast as you want to go. LOL
