I had a plow Lined up an Oliver 4-16 but the deal didn't work out so I found a white 508 4-18 plow my question is can my Oliver 1850 pull a 4-18. And can't the 508 be adjusted to a 16 or 18

Depends on your soil and if your ground is flat or rolling. Here in North Jersey, in our rolling clay, an 1850 would have its hands full with 4-18s. Go down to South Jersey in the flat, loose, sandy loam soils just west of the pine barrens and that 1850 could probably pull 5-18s.

well its all flat ground i usually pull a 3-14 with my ford 4000 about 45hp i have seen a a 4020 pull 5-16s. i think our ground is fairly easy to till a friend pulls a case IH disc chisel 7 shank with a jd 6400 but im one of the few that still use mold board plow around here. I think i can pull 4-18s but i dont want to over work the oliver

I don't think you will have any problem with a 4-18 it is smaller than 5-16 and 1850 will out lug a 4020, and according to Neb. tests has more drawbar HP than a 4020. I believe the White plows were adjustable.

You should have no problem whatsoever, just bumping up 2 inches per bottom.....trash flows through much better. I"m on heavy clay, started with 4/16 on a 4020 back in "73, went to 4/18 a few years later and the cornstalks flowed through much better. Would be similar here with the Ollie"s 18/1850. Those Ollie"s are a tough tractor!

It should pull it in 3rd, no problem. You don't have to plow 12" deep, ya know. Chris

I pull a 508 4-18 with my 1850 diesel and works well in WI heavy soil. You will run out of traction before you'll run out of power. I have the tires loaded and 2 sometimes 3 slab weights on the front.
I'd leave the plow set on 18".

Yes. I used to pull 4x18s with mine. it handled it better than the 4040 Deere that I had at the time too. I pull it with my White 2-135 now though. Just be ready to pay the price for iron for it. I just bought points for mine, aftermarkets, not from Agco,$29.68 EACH.
