Massey Harris square baler

I have a chance to buy a Massey Harris square baler that the owner says baled hay a few years ago. He is wanting junk price at 200 bucks. Should I go for it?? What should I look for or look out for? I can probably scrap it but if it will bale hay might be worth as a backup

do you collect MH balers? I have three that are the same I think two are MH and one MF

heck I had not even seen them!!! LOL I think/I hope that is the only one that got shot!! I will have to take another look,, thanks

sorry I have three that I got in a pakage deal I have never run them the guy I got these from said they put up 3000-5000 bales every year with them, just not much help cnt

I started out with a #3.Low capacity.Makes a14x18"bale,lenght was preset at 36".It would only make a 40-50 lbs. bale that was hard to pick with the New Holland 1000 stackwagon.Parts availability is probably shakey these days.

Have a #10 that had set in a shed for 10 years and was headed for the scrap. It weighed 3000# and gave $200 for it.

Have baled 6500 - 7000 bales the last 4 years and it works great.

I started bailing hay with a Massey Ferguson number 3, it was a good little baler. I gave $125 for it, put new sisal twine in it (was told not to use plastic as the bill hooks wouldn't catch it to tie the knots) greased it regularly and baled several thousand bales with it over a 3 year period. Then I sold it for many times more than I gave and upgraded to a little newer baler with more capactiy, wish I had kept the old 3 for a restore but time money and marriage didn't allow it.

Yes,I collect balers...Those 3 all look like #1 Massey Harris balers...I"ve been hunting one with no luck..

Balers I have..

77 New Holland with engine
76 New Holland-missing engine
116 JD with engine-runs
116 JD Pto
Long with Wisconsin engine
White Top AC Round Baler-only baled 1600 bales
Very early John Deere
MM Bale-O-Matic-3rd one built
Early Case where 2 men tied wire
46 McCormick

I would love to see these go to someone who would make use of them, hate to see all of them scrapped, I will get the serial and model # 's and better shots and post for you, I would trade for some thing Case, would not have to be a baler cnt

low capacity. does not like heavy hay.
Shear bolts are still available at the dealer. 2 years ago they were 1.25 with the nut. Wanted the rollers on the knotters and the parts guy laughed at me.

Thanks for the offer..Would love to have one of them but its over 1000 miles up there...I would have over $1000 just in travel expense...Some friends 30 miles away junked a whole bunch of old balers just one year before I started collecting balers..One of them was a #1 Massey..
