John Deere Power Mower Caster Wheel Type

I have a John Deere Power Mower Caster Wheel type. This mower was made prior to the #5. The mower was made between 1934 and 1936. I am looking for the original pto shaft that runs from the tractor to the mowers gear box on the mower as well as any parts you may have for this mower.

I have seen no diff, other than it is held on by 2 bolt CLAMP type and will come off during operation unless you use a quarter inch bolt as a safety. Yes shields are diff and other items.

I found a mounted power mower(no model listed) in JD parts that appeared to fit a GP but it had no caster-wheel. Other than that I'm unaware of a mounted power mower with a caster wheel older than a #5. I thought the 5 was next in production after the #4.

I have a drive shaft for a No.5 in good shape with a good set of u joints in it that I would sell. It fits standard size PTO shafts. I can get you part numbers as well. This did come from what I believe is an earlier No.5 mower based on other parts on the machine.

The first litature did not refer to it by a model number but as power mower, it is in fact an early version of the No. 5 an included in same parts book. The No. 4 might have come out a few years before the No. 5 but both were made at the same time for around 15+ years and the horse mower is still a valuable mower to use. And the No. 4 was built in a tractor version as well and one version of that was designed to use in tandem with the No. 5.

Checked the February 1938 Operator's Manual for the John Deere Power Mower Caster Wheel Type page 35.

The cover on the Operator's Manual changed on the February 1939 manual.

Hope this helps.

We have the remains of a Power Mower that we used to use on our JD H. Biggest differences were in the angle iron frame (Is more of a trapezoid rather than a triangle) and the gear case (The lower portion housing the shaft from the driven gear to the flywheel is longer. If I remember correctly the PTO shaft, slip clutch and old-style universals were identical to the early #5s, as was the lift and cutterbar adjustment assemblies. We"re thinking of restoring ours and mounting it on our "31GP if we can"t find a GP Power Mower.
