Alemite Hydraulic Fittings… What Thread?

I have just purchased various cast iron parts for my mowers and hay rake. They all have a fine thread in them for what IHC called Alemite Hydraulic Fittings, but which Australians call grease nipples and (I think?) are called zerks in the U.S. The female thread in the castings is dirty on most of the parts and needs chasing out with a tap. Unfortunately I am not sure what the thread is. The size is 3/8, but the thread is not UNF. Dare I guess that it might be BSF despite being made in the U.S.? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

The larger and most common is a 1/8" pipe thread and the small ones are 1/4 by 28 thread, same as a 1/4" fine thread bolt. Then there are 5/16" drive in grease fittings and IHC liked to use some of those.

The diameter of the 1/8 mpt measures .405". See if you can thread a 1/8 pipe nipple into the threaded hole. , Hal

Ah, thanks folks. Sorry to be troublesome, but are we talking British Standard Pipe thread or an American pipe thread? I will have to purchase a tap, so I don't want to buy the wrong one or damage the thread in a new part. Thanks,

All I know is that ios what it is here in the USA, no idea if there is a Brittich standard.
