Value of a McCormick Deering Number 9 Mower

Hello,
can anyone advise the value of McCormick Deering Number 9 mowers? I found one recently and the owners seem willing to part with it, but I have no idea what to offer them. The mower is complete other than the pitman, tongue and grass board have rotted away. I suspect the flywheel is frozen and the knife is securely rusted into the inner shoe. The shoe hinges are also frozen. Not too worried about the knife and shoe hinges, but the flywheel may be more serious to free. Thanks,

I have no Idea what it would be where you are at as I don't think you have any Amish in your country. Where I am that is a desired mower, in the top 3 horse drawn mowers of the McC. #7 & #9 and J. D. Big 4 and in top rebuilt condition will make $1,400, any of these 3 is in that range. Have one I need to get going for resale to them. I paid $200 for this one, last year I got one and already sold it and Paid $150 for it but this one is in better shape.

Fair enough. Quite true there are no Amish here to use these mowers, but people do seem to like them as garden ornaments. Seems a waste of good machines to me and a dangerous ornament as well. I'll see what they want for the machine. A number 7 mower cost me $400, but it was in better condition - just had a seized hinge. The number 9 is four hours drive away from here, so getting it will be something of a job.

Spoke to the chap today. He said his wife just remembered she bought it for a garden ornament. Won't part with it. Says his small children would like the look of it in the garden. I said the hospital would probably not like the look of his kids after they had run into the mower…
