John Deere 4 bottom plow

I found this 4 bottom plow and am trying to figure out what model it is. I was thinking a 66H since it had the spoke wheels, but looking through several plow pictures it has a lot of the 666H look. Thge hitch is solid, no trip release and has the 3 peice moldboards. I need to go back and get some part numbers off it and maybe get a better idea. The tailwheel is gone, the 4 bolt hub is still there though.

Thanks

Yeah, that is what caught my attention also, the high speed bottoms. Since I have the 66H with 5 bottoms, and the older once piece moldboards with sharpen shares, this one looks pretty promising. It looks heavier built than my early 66H 5 bottom, but I guess it is not.

Another question is this one does not have the flat metal piece that goes from where the hydraulic cylinder hooks, back towards the axle. My 5 bottom has it, that and no spring release on the hitch.

Thanks guys,

Well, digging through the 66H parts book, it looks like the "rocker straps" were only used on the 5 bottom and rice special plows, thats why its not on this 4 bottom. Also it looks like they did offer a "plain hitch" with no trip safetys in place, that could be interesting!

What are you pulling the 5 bottom with..?

An "R" would handle 5x 14" in average soil.
4x16" is a nice match for an "R"..2nd and 3rd..seen that, even at a dead-slow idle...!!

I wouldn't try that with my 720 D...!!

Hey Ron,

I have not pulled it at all, matter of fact I have never pulled any of these old plows. I had an R and a 820 both liked them both. I just have an unstyled G and a late styled G right now. I need to find a 3 14 trip for the unstyled G I suppose. I bought that old 5 bottom at an auction for 250 bucks, just couldnt let it go to scrap, this 4 bottom is in a scrap/recycle yard right now. I think Ill get it just to keep it from scrap.

Thanks for all your replies and help,

Garry
