We have a 12 row JD 7100 plateless planter. The planter is set up to plant soybeans. What do I need to buy to convert the planter to plant grain sorghum. Trying to decide which would be cheaper converting a 12 row 7100 to plant sorghum or fixing up a 6 row 800 series IH plate planter that hasn't been used in years to plant the sorghum. Thanks for all replys

Would need the soybeen meters, and then buy the parts to convert them to milo/sorgum seed. Can pick up the meters at salvage yards resonably. would be better than trying to get a planter that has not be used for a while to work properly.

Take the serial number of your planter to your local John Deere dealer and get an operator's manual for your planter. It will tell you what parts you need. It's a pretty easy changeover. The book will also give you an approximate setting for your grain sorghum. Mike

You already have the meter assembly you need. All you need are the different feed cups and the steel face plate that goes with them. Very easy and inexpensive to change from soybeans to sorghum.

What spacechem said...I bet I still have 8 of those cups and plates, but check for exact numbers...I think there are a couple available, maybe for different population.
