F11 loader hydraulics

I just resurrected a farmall super m, which has a farmhand f11 loader attachment. The loader has a reservoir and a yellow hydraulic pump mounted on the rear pto spline. I do need to fix some leaky hydraulic hoses, but I am having trouble with the loader as it is weak and slow moving. I have put hydraulic fluid in the reservoir, and that improved the situation to some degree, but I still think the loader can do a lot more, so I have a couple of questions:

1.) Is universal tractor hydraulic fluid the appropriate choice for this loader with yellow pto pass through pump?

2.) Is the F11 loader just generally slow responding?

3.) How do I know if I have a pto pump problem?

Thanks,

Gabe

I had a f-11 on an H and it worked really good. I bet the cylinders need new rings. It must be slipping past. Hook tractor to another hydraulic imp. and see if it lifts that ok. That will tell you if problem is with tractor or loader.

One symptom of a weak pto pump is it will lift ok when cold but it will taper off as the oil warms. guessing you might need cylinder packing. Those are darn good old loaders.

not bad for free / left on the property I bought. The engine on the Super M was frozen last week, added a little diesel in the cylinders and it loosened right up, pull started it, now its running great. Just troubleshooting hydraulics, a subject I know little about. I will research cylinder packing and get back to this message board. thanks.

that is also why I wanted to make sure that universal tractor hydraulic fluid is the right choice for this pump. I know some of the older model tractors used regular engine oil for this purpose. I was a little worried that I may have put the wrong fluid in (ie. universal fluid, which is not viscous enough.

If your loader is weak on all three spools, I'd sure suspect the pump or the relief valve is dumping by.

If only one function is weak, there's something wrong with that particular circuit.

No, the pump will move something like 19 gallons of oil per minute and even at idle they are a fast operating loader.

How much oil did you put in it? They have a habit of running out of oil fairly fast if not completely full.

Does the engine "grunt" like it's deadheading? Could have a collapsed feed line or the return line from the valve to the tank is bad.

Are all three valves coming back to center? If one is hanging open, it will kill the entire loader when it bumps up against that relief.

Yep, use hydraulic oil to keep 'er "loose" during the cold winter months.

hooking the tractor to another implement won't tell you anything since this loader has its own hydraulic pump run from the tractor's PTO.
