I have and use a Case 281 side hay rake. I have not run to many rakes but this one I am in love with. It has hydlaulic lift on it. Why dont I see more of these around? They seem to be a good rake. Did they not get off the ground like some of the others?

There aren't many anywhere. I know somebody who has one, that it's the only one around here. They came along right before JI Case was bought by Tenneco. Hay & Forage, Combines, Planters & Drills, and Manure Spreaders were dropped not long after that.

I have had two case rakes , 1st one was horse drawn on steel darn good rake, the one I have now looks the same as a NH 56 but is built twice as heavy the reel is cast iron , I have hit trees on the outside round and the rake just bounces off them, pretty tough old rake.

I had a case 200 and a 281. A New Holland they aren't! My NH 55&56 (on a tandem hitch)do a much better job. The hyd. lift was nice though.

I've got one and my baby brother has one. Don't know of any others around here now but there is bound to be some. There was a case dealer in Ft Smith Arkansas that must have been a strong dealer in the 40's through 60's. the 6a cobines were everwhere as were their balers. Tractors were strong as well. We don't have a dealer anymore but I sure like my case equipment.
