Chopping hay with IH 20-C Field Harvester

no-till

New User
Our neighbor got his recently restored IH 20-C Field Harvester running chopping hay in Michigan last week. Ran good after a few minor adjustments. It was in pretty good shape for beeing over 50 years old. He has the corn head on it now getting ready to chop corn silage.

Oh my. Brings back memories of the countless hours we would spend working on one of those. They had mpre than three times the moving parts than modern choppers.
Thanks for the pics

That's the first Chopper I have seen with it's own power plant. How big is that motor?

Nice pictures.

Back in the 60's cousins used a Ghel chopper with a hand crank Continental engine. Think it was 4 cyl, about 35 hp.

Continental Red Seal engines! Very popular on choppers in the '50's. Sorta like V4 Wisconsins on balers! Big choppers like the Foxes had 6 cylinder Continentals if I remember correctly! Some farmers around here used to set them up to run the blower at the silo! Saved a tractor from being tied up!

I get a cold chill just looking at that thing. Now I know why electric, remote starters were invented...

How long does it take to fill the wagon?

AWESOME rig!!! I doubt many are around AT ALL with the engine on them!! I saw a really nice 20-C once, I was young and dumb and thought 300 bucks was too much. Was a PTO model, though, with the corn head. Would love to find a nice one parked in the back of someone"s shed some day!!

Thanks for the pics!!!
