Farmall H New Idea 2 row Corn Picker

How much HP is needed to pull a New Idea 2 row corn picker? I've seen Farmall H's pull 1 row pickers. I have a 2 row picker that bought few years ago and might use it next year but wondered if the old H could pull it. I've pulled her pretty hard, 3 bottom plow, baling hay w/ wagon behind on hilly fields. But I think pullin the picker and then the corn wagon might be maxing it out if it can even do it.

Use a smaller wagon, or just fill it half full and so long as you don't have any outrageously steep hills I think the H will handle it, but the big issue is going to be if that H will go slow enough to properly harvest that corn if it is yielding 100 to 150 bushels per acre.

Back in the day when an H was regularly used for picking corn the yeild at best would have been maybe 50 bushels per acre.

What rusty said is true. Finding a low enough gear for the picker to take 150 bushel corn is a problem.

This 2 row on a MTA is a load in low gear.

I agree with Gary.

I can pull a 2 Row with my WD45 and it will handle it. Power wise the WD is enough but not overkill but the gearing is not always right. The other thing is your H not having independant PTO is another problem.

I tried my M one day on the picker and it lasted about 200 yards before I gave up.

Picked about 10 acres for the neighbor last year and used a modern tractor in heavy corn with good results cause I had about 3 gears in the right range to pick from depending upon conditions.
