Hesston 530 Auto Tie - Update

Hi, I thought I would update everyone on my Hesston 530 and the Auto Tie conversion. I baled hay for the first time since converting a Gehl 1860 Bale Monitor to work with the electric tie the Hesston 530.

It worked!!

It's what I would call a semi-Auto Tie. I was able to setup micro switches for the bale full, start and end positions. I also included an alarm (back up alarm from a truck).

When the bale is full, the alarm goes off, the twine arm goes to the end position and starts the tie. I then use the manual retract switch to track back to the right side of the bale. When finished I hit the cycle switch and the twine arm goes all the way to the right and triggers the twine cut, ready for the next cycle.

Because the twine arm automatically starts, by the time I stop the tractor the tie is already starting while hay is still feeding in. This made the tie very easy to start (was a bit of a problem at times before).

On the downside, it rained on my hay. We were supposed to get 3 days of dry weather. I cut and it poured rain the next day, nearly flash floods. I was able to get some of the hay baled today by tedding in the morning, raked and baled this afternoon.

The semi-Auto Tie worked like a charm and really made baling easier. I am looking forward to using on a couple of other fields, if it ever dries up.
