Ive got a steel wheeled JD 4 bar side rake that was my dads. I have never been able to figure how to set the chains on the rear wheels, and also how the chain runs through the 2 pulleys on the back rear wheel. Are the chains supposed to equal on that holder thingie that hooks to the chain going to the raising lever? Does the frame run level or is it canted downward as it goes to the front? If you mount the 2 rear wheels on a board that is level, doesa that makle a difference. (dont think so).

Adjust so both chains have the sam tension, no slack in eather one. And they have to be on top of the pully

Sounds like a 594. I may have a manual floating around here yet from when my grandfather had one . . .

That manual should still be avaible from Deere, 594 for the high steel wheel rake and 594LW for the basically same rake on low rubber
