I saw a plow advertised as an IH 'Little Genius' plow in the classified ads. My son bought a plow today that looks like it, but what makes a "Little Genius' plow distinctive? I don't have a picture yet. I don't know a lot about IH plows---yet.
Thanks for your input!

It's little, and it's a dam smart one too.

Good One !

Only explaination I ever got was, you didn't have to be a genius to use one. Now can someone tell me differences in wonder-genius ?

Pappy this may get you started in the right direction, Or it may start a war.
It is a brand of plow
The IH Little Genius plows were popular H implements. An H should easily pull a 2-14; the 3-14 would be more of a challenge, depending on soil type.
I believe that they are/were A 1930- 1940s made plow My books are in storage right now while we remodel so some one will need help me here the most poplar were the 2- 3 & 4 bottoms and they came in 10-12-14-&16 inch If my memory servers me right the also made a 5 bottom and even a 12 bottom 14 inch monster

there use to be a list of plows on Kolossner's antiquetractor page had a lot of good information I believe it is antiquetractor dot com.
Good luck Larry

Pappy: Little Genius IH plows were built from 1928 to 1962. There were several model numbers, the No. 8 being the most common. Somewhere around 70,000 No. 8 were built, from 2 to 5 bottom. Prior to WW#2 they were all steel wheels, and after the war most came on rubber.

The difference between Little Genius and Little Wonder was quite simple The Little Genius has a castering tail that lifts tail end of plow via a linkage that goes to rockshaft of left front wheel. The Little Wonder either has no tail wheel or a fixed position tail wheel. The tail end of a Little Wonder is lifted via a chain or linkage from plow frame down to the hitch tongue.

They may or may not have the same moldboards and coulters. During the 34 years No.8 Little Genius was produced, it had about a dozen different moldboard options, probably 3-4 coulter options.

Hugh,
Thank you. Those of us who know everything can always learn a little more. I'd always heard about little wonders but don't know that I have ever seen one.

Thank you, Gentlemen! In looking at the pictures, and plow catalog, I have determined we have a #8 Little Genius Plow. It is on rubber, so it would be a later model. It is a two bottom plow. We are anxious to use it. Everything looks good on it and we are cleaning it up and ready to move some dirt. Thanks!!! Pappy

They made a 12 bottom plow?

First off, I dont think thats allowed to qualify as the "little" portion of its name anymore. Secondly, what would you use to actually pull a twelve bottom plow. I have seen some rather large tractors before, and most of them where I grew up didnt pull anything more than a 6 bottom plow without really turning up the smoke screw.

What tractors were around at that time that could pull a 12 bottom beastie?

Mogul 45, some of them pulled a 18 bottom plow. :)
