How do you remove the bill hooks from knotter frame in a 316 square baler? Is it neccesary to change the bill hooks to the ones for plastic twine to bale plastic twine reliably?

Unpin the knotter frame from the balecase.
Rotate the frame upwards until the solid pin is visible in the billhook pinion. Using a 3/16 pin punch, drive the solid pin out of the pinion and billhook. Pull the billhook out of the pinion and frame, retaining the thrust washer located between the pinion and knotter frame. You may very well get along fine with your existing billhook and plastic twine. If you need new billhooks, p/n 717013 is a low clearance billhook specifically for plastic twine and single piece knotter frames without the replaceable billhook cam ramp. I routinely use the standard billhook for single piece knotter frames p/n 717011 on all older NH balers regardless of twine type. Never had to swap them out due to concerns related to plastic twine.
