I run a 1460 with rolls basic same machine just wider if memory is corect behind 4450 Jd no problems, leess 100hp going to make it pull in the hills. This machine is for sale by the way if be interested. Just going to larger center swing unit. Pictures of the outfit in action can be seen at Ricksales.com

We have the same machine, has 7 disks,if it is a decent crop,it will take at least 80 to go 7 mph.60 will run it just fine at 5 if it is a fairly light cut as we ran it with a 50 hp tractor for abit this summer, but i think the tractor would have keeled over if we tried to run it once it started to thicken up.phill

I run a 1360. Its a 6 disk mower, if I'm not mistaken a 1327 is 5 disks. A 65 hp tractor is enough for me if there is not much hill. If its hilly, 80 or even 100 is a lot nicer. A 60 hp tractor would be enough for a 1327 on level ground as long as you dont think you have to go 8 or 10 mph.

The 1327 is simply an older version of the 1360, with the older, non modular bar. I believe it's a 9'2" cut, with either 6 or 7 discs....

I had to go look this up. It is a 7 disk machine and older than a 1360. But from what I can tell it is slightly smaller, more the size of a 1350. (5 disk version of the 1360) At any rate 60 hp would be a minimum but capable. Also may depend on the particular 60 hp tractor. That is PTO hp not engine hp, right? I can run my 1360 with a JD 3020 or a JD 2550 or a Ford 5000 or my buddy's IH 656 but just cant go as fast as I may like.

I'd have to check some of the old literature I've got around, but I'm almost positive that the cutting width on the 1327 is 9'2". I've got a 7 disc kuhn bar, and it's 9'2"... The 1350 is a replacement for the 1326. I believe that both the 1350 and 13/1460 are slightly wider than the models they replace. The 13/1460 is 9'9". In either case I think deere recomended about a 65 hp minimum on the 1327, 13/1460. You can do it with a bit less in some situations, but it's hard on the tractor. All figures would be related to PTO hp.

I used a 1326 behind a 65 hp tractor. In good hay I couldnt keep the tractor from overheating at any speed except creeping. I'd want at least 80 on good ground and good hay, they are awesome mowers but horsepower hogs.

You need a tractor too. I'm running a 1460 (same width) with a 70 PTO HP tractor, and that's a good load on it. I prefer to run it on an 85++ hp tractor. The 70 runs it fine, but it's slow on the hills or heavy crop. She just doesn't have the power to keep it going.... You might, on a good day and a light crop get away with the 60, but I wouldn't want to make a regular thing of it. That will be hard on a 60 hp tractor. Period.

I'm not familiar with a JD 1327. I ran a 9' Kuhn with impellar this summer with a pretty strong 70 hp tractor. The hay wasn't real heavy and it pulled it alright. In heavy hay, moving fast, the same mower will work a 100 hp tractor pretty good. Just a guess here based on what i see guys using, but I'd say about 9-10 hp per foot is required to pull it good.
