Hi, I am rebuilding an old Brillion cultipacker and need to replace the bearings....I am afraid to pull it all apart for fear of not being able to get replacement bearings/retainers etc....Does anyone know any place that I can get them or should they be standard bearings that I can get anywhere ? They look like normal roller bearings but I won't know for sure unless I pull it apart...
Any help greatly appreciated...Alan

There are two kinds of bearings on a Brillion. The earlier type is a "needle" type bearing with cast iron hub. This type has a hub with a grease fitting and an "X" or "crosshairs" cast into it.
The other is the newer type roller bearing like on a car. It has a grease cap.
The needle bearing in a bit of an effort because the unit must be blocked up and three hands might be needed to re-assemble. If the bearings are bad the hub is likely bad as well. Parts are not too expensive but must be ordered through a dealer. I'll be the parts list is on the net. The roller bearing are easier because they are cones and cups and would likely be at any auto parts store. Either way is not all that difficult.

You don't really need a parts list. Of all the older Brillions out there, I believe most used only one hub and only one set of needle bearings. The parts list would make it easier to tell the dealer what to order. I think you can buy a set that services both sides. You should take one side apart first to see the condition of the hubs--I think there are two on each side. Then order the parts. When you assemble things, I used Mobil One grease--It's sticky--to hold those darn needle bearings together.
You could even call Brillion and tell them your model and serial number and they will tell you what to get and the suggested retail price.
If you want to paint it, IH Red and JD (old) Green are the correct colors. Good luck.

I got some for mine at NAPA. The gear that drives that small seeder was busted when I got it and I got one from hamilton Equipment.
