My Gleaner L3 had the cylinder drive shaft break off last week. Its actually a short stub shaft the bolts onto the drum of the cylinder, not nearly as miserable to get out as I feared.

However. The dealer said none in stock at the factory, but he found two on a shelf in Virginia. Ok, get one. A day and a half later he phones back, nope, they arent real, none around, so sorry. Good luck.

So I call Worthington, they are actually a fairly close drive. But it was pouring rain. He said thry have them, but will be a few days until thry get to it, backlogged. It should be ready Monday.

Well I found a salvage place near me that has a grove of Gleaners. Got one off of one of their machines, it was a beast to get off, had to torch the hub off. Sheez.

Put it together today, and as I slipped my hub pulley on - it doesnt fit. The salvage stub shaft is cut down smaller my original shaft is 1/8 inch bigger on the end. As I mentioned we had to torch off the salvage hub, so Im out of luck there.

Meanwhile Worthington left a message on my machine today, do you still want up to get that shaft out for you? I take that to mean its not ready yet. And now I dont know if its going to be the right one there either.....

Kinda feel defeated today, this has dragged on too long.

Well that just sucks. Must be one of the tiny changes that AC engineers liked to do! For me here in NY, Spallingers in Ohio is the closest, and has long been an excellent source for any combine part needed.

I second Spallinger's. I broke a drive axle in my K2 last year and they were the only place I could find that had one. I just happened to be going that way and stopped in and picked it up. Nice folks.

Hi Paul
I assume you need the right hand Gudgeon (stub Shaft). This is the one that is NLA. Try Baraby Equipment in Quebec Canada 450-296-4411. They show they have one.

Fingers crossed, Im on my way to Worthington to get another one. But, now in scared on which size it will be, everyone says they are all the same. They are not. At least the late model L3 I have has a fatter shaft end.

I guess I need to find a hub that matches whatever I get.

Paul, I know what you mean. I own a 1976 model that even tho its a model M has some M2 options.Lucky I have full service and parts manual. Before going for parts I have always measured the shafts.Best to have all the measurements with you.Lucky I haven't had to change that shaft yet but have a whole set up when I do. Best of luck, Your machine would be the model I hope to own.

And a tire. Got a big front sidewall got a crack. Had to run 80 miles to get a tire so we didnt have to wait 5 days....

Rained since several inches, might snow a bit in a couple days.
