1660 2 speed hydro?

Are there any experts here on the International 1660 combines?
I looked at one on Saturday, 1989 model, I think I want to buy it.

Do you have any info about the 2 speed hydro? I guess that was an option
How do I check if it has the 2 speed?
Is there a switch on the dash? Where is the switch?
Or can you tell from the serial number?

It's not a 4 wheel drive. Does the 2 speed hydro only work with 4 wheel drive?

I'm thinking about driving it home, about 150 miles, the owner said the top speed is 13mph.
Do you know what the road speed should be?
I'm thinking it should be higher and trying to figure out if there is a problem.

Thank you!

I can't answer your questions. I can only tell you my 1660, which I believe is newer than the one pictured, is 4 WD and has the two speed. There are two side by side rocker switches on the dash, one being for rear wheel assist, and one for the two speed. I don't know why they bothered with the two speed, it doesn't make a lot of difference. Shifting between 2 and 4 WD makes more difference in ground speed than shifting the two speed. I think my combine will run close to 20 MPH at its fastest.

i.I had a 1660 about that age, and it was 2 WD. It hat a 3 speed transmission and went close to 20 mph . only i speed hydro. If rear steering is loose can be tricky to drive that fast.

My two $...
Look newer.
Drove one like that on wheat harvest with 18' head, no go in tough material.

I thought it was hard to work on , just like our White 8900.

Man that jd9600 , on the next crew, opened right up on the sides.
Just an opinion.
Good luck with your project. GG

Sitting in the cab the two-speed switch is to your left. I had that option on my 1480 and loved it.
