JD 6620 Transmission-Again:)

I recently changed the transmission fluid on this combine. The specs say it holds 11 quarts. When I drained the fluid there was less than a quart. Knowing the machine had not been maintained I was not concerned. I put in 11 quarts of 80-90 gear oil.

I drove it around the edge of a field and then checked for leaks. There was a steady flow of fluid from the left brake drum. I am not familiar with these machines but assume there is a seal around the transmission/drive shaft that is leaking/running into the brake drum?? I was surprised I did not see fresh oil between the transmission and the brake drum.

Does anyone have experience, suggestions or a WAG how to start?

Thanks,
Rich

(quoted from post at 18:28:02 08/18/22) thats why there was only a quart of oil in it. hopefully didn't hurt the trans.

There was probablyneleven quarts, you drained 1, so now you have 21.
Do.you have an oil level plug in there?

Yes, I am sure you are correct. I am guessing there is a seal in the side of the transmission around the shaft that goes through the brake drums to the final drive. I am guessing all that needs to be disassembled to repair. Was curious if anyone had experience doing that.
Thanks!

Over filling was also my first hopeful thought...however it would be hard to do. There is a fill hole that is also used to measure the fluid level (...fluid 1/2 inch below fill hole.) That was the level when I finished but it is now nearly empty. Looks like there must be a damaged seal around the shaft. Currently hunting through parts diagrams but haven't found exactly what I need:)
Thanks!

I thought some might be curious about a follow-up to my transmission fluid leaking from the brake drum question. Also, as one who has garnered great information from the achieves, perhaps someone down the line with a leaking transmission will stumble on this.

I removed the drive shaft that goes between the transmission and the final drive. This is held in place by 2 couplers. Then removed the brake drum.
Photo 1 shows the drum and the shaft from the transmission
Photo 2 shows the shaft being pulled out of the transmission and the seal and bearing. (This is free to pull out)
Photo 3 shows the shaft with the seal and bearings which have seen better days
Photo 4 is a parts diagram showing the needle bearing and seal.

I have parts ordered and am hopeful this will fix things:)
