One other question on a Gleaner K2

I've heard from people on here that if a straw chopper is installed on a K2 Gleaner, you should put a screen that hangs down in front of it. I'm just growing 20 acres of corn per year, if i don't have the screen installed will that little of an amount hurt things at all?? So far i haven't found a screen and if 20 acres per year won't hurt it i won't worry about putting one on. If I was growing hundreds or thousands of acres i wouldn't even ask that question.

It's been a while since I've had my K2 and F2, so I may mess up.
Without any of the items installed to protect the walkers from corn cobs, it won't be long and the ends of the walkers will be bashed up from the cobs. I removed the chopper when I did corn.
There's a curtain, and a plate that mount in front of the chopper. And there are heavy duty ends available for the walkers.
The concaves are to be dropped, and the speed changed. For me, it was simpler to just remove the chopper.
Without a way to handily remove the chopper, I would highly recommend getting all the proper pieces.

Id cut a mud flap to fit or remove the chopper for the corn.

It bangs them up pretty quick.

You can remove the chopper, but it's possible to leave the rearmost two bolts in and swing the chopper backwards and hold it up in position with a brace. Then, when needed, simply remove the brace, swing the chopper down, put the front bolts in and roll the belt on.

There's been comments on removing the chopper, it's a PITA to remove that drive belt !! Just find/make the shields, pull the fingers out and change the driven pulley to SLOW and carry on

I had to have the chopper on, then off for a few days, then back on again. I just loosened the belt and tied it up away from the drive pulley. It worked. But yes that belt is a pain. Gleaner should have run a belt to a jackshaft halfway back and then an easier to remove and put on belt from there to the chopper.
