1060 case governor

Getting caught up on field work, hopefully get time to have some fun shortly.
First on the fun list is getting my 1060 ready to work. Combine has sat for a very long time, 318 industrial. Right now, it will idle at about 600 rpm, 1200rpm, or be wide open which is 2400. Book says idle 750 and wide open 2150. Not much in the old book on the governor. What kind of oil should it have? Is something stuck inside from how long it sat? Also, should it throttle up infinitely like a ordinary engine or should it be all or nothing like a maximizer Deere?

the govenor onley controls wide open speed. the idle speed is controled by the cable direct to the carburator.

Have many years and hours on Case self propelled combines. Only two notches on the throttle, idle and wide open as m whalen said. Governor takes 30 weight oil. High speed can be set with the set screw and locknut on the throttle arm of the governor. Usually when they went to hell they ran overspeed and could not be adjusted...very seldom happened. Don't think you can buy them new.

Thanks for the info!
Oil seems pretty clean that was in it to my pleasant surprise, doesnt seem to want to settle down from 2400rpm, but i havent messed with it much yet.

I have heard many people tell me the 1060's had a reputation for spitting out the screen deck, but no one can tell me what fails causing that. Have you ran into this?
This combine is a collectors item now but I would like to bring it back to tip top running condition IF possible.

I mean the frame that the chaffer and sieve bolt to. Could easily be caused by those bushings as the men who have told me about it arent big on preventative maintenance. I see CNH lists a part number for those bushings still; I wonder if they can actually get them; I might go in in person to see the look on the parts guys face when i give him make and model haha.

It will not hurt to have a set on hand.As stated a too high of rpm has caused some major damage.I always have the part number in hand when ordering.Tho it is interesting to see a younger parts person try and lookup parts for for the 1660 or 1665 combine. Then you tell them they are a JIC machine and you get a really weird look.I have had only 1160 that had governor issues.Pretty much idle or wide open on the 318 engine.

I'm a little late Herr, but I have 2 1160s and both have the root of the shoe broke off. They were like that when I got them, so I'm not sure why. I suspect it was because they let the rubber bushings get old and hard. But in both cases at the front of the shoe where the cross piece boots on that holds the sieve down broke off. That piece then got destroyed in The auger. Both had one in that was homemade. The problem with that is that the homemade ones are heavier so they eventually did more damage to the shoe. I have to redo mne this year to make it lighter.

Thanks for this, I was hoping someone could point me to the exact point of failure. I will go all over it looking for cracks, but I'll have better luck knowing where to focus. We had a screen deck collapse in our newer deere and the carnage it caused was intense; would hate to start into a repair like it on something they no longer makes parts for.

After some thought I think it is the front of the lower sieve that gave me trouble. Either way it's the bolted on cross piece in the front that holds down the sieve.
