1060 homeward bound

After about 6 months of searching I was referred to a little clearing auction and found this beautiful (albeit far from perfect) old 1060. Owner has passed, I have been told he bought it new, and stopped harvesting with it 25+ years ago, but kept getting it out and running up until about 10 years ago. Has a 12' straight cut with a 4 belt pickup attachment. Haven't had a chance to do anything other than pull it home, as it was 115km one way, and we are finishing up seeding right now. Looking forward to hearing that 318 snort and sputter to life.

Looks good. Nice to see another machine saved from the scrapper. We moved a Deere 7700 about 30 miles a few years ago. Backed the rear tires on a small bumper trailer and then pulled it with a tractor. Took the final drive shafts off and added some oil to the final drives. Tom

Had a chance to throw a battery on, had to jump the solenoid but not much cranking and it fired right up. Governor is wacky, we're either idle or wide open it seems. Another fun thing, a case of better luck then management on my part; the main separator drive belt has shrunk and when she fired, the combine itself started with it. Much to my pleasure it sat and ran smoothly an quietly. I had planned to give it a very thorough grease and oil job before firing it up, but I suppose know I know Im not wasting grease! haha

J D govener was either idle or wide open so you could not try to combine at say 2/3rd of throttle.

A Massey Super 92 combine was either at idle or wide open for the most part also. It seems the old combines were just that way.
