J D 42 Broken PTO

The yoke closest to the combine - on the short pto shaft (the one which hooks to the tractor) broke. It is a ten spline yoke. John Deere says UNAVAILABLE! I looked at several old hay balers and my JD 1219 hay cutter conditioner. None have a ten spline yoke. Tractor Supply has only a six spline yoke. What do I do? kelly

If the splined part is OK a machine shop should be able to machine it to match a replacement yoke made to be welded to a selected hub and weld them together. There may be some other options, I'll look at some catalogs later

or shaft end yoke.

The number I looked up was P49551. Parts Depot has none but my Master Parts Index says it is also used on a No. 30 pull type combine. There are lots more 30's around than 42's so that should help. You might want to do a little research on the 30's to make sure it was used on all or just some. Hope this helps. Facebook has some John Deere vintage combine groups so someone on there might be able to help. Tom

That's what I was going to say. I had one made that way once. He turned the splined part down to fit in the hole that he bored in the yoke. CaseIH wanted $400 for the part, he made that one for a hundred.
