J D 42 Pull Type with Pickup Header

I have a John Deere 42 pull type combine with a pickup header. I haven't been able to find an owner's/operator's manual for the pickup header. So . . . when I operate it, is it supposed to be flat (front to back) or with slight, medium or severe angle? Thanks for any advice. kelly

I had a pickup header on my 105 and we ran it at a slight angle. If you go to Ebay and type in John Deere belt pickup there are manuals listed. Measure but I think the one you want is for 80 inch. Is your 42 a square back? If it is you will want a latter book with a grey cover. Any of them should work even the ones from a self propelled. I always wanted a nice square back 42. Tom

There are two numbers for the operators manual, OMH61464, which you can download for free on Deere's website, and an older version OMH90835H (there is a worn one on eBay right now-search under: Deere 80 belt pickup manual). It does not matter if you have a round or square back machine.

Tom (of Tom's Tractors & Toys). I think my John Deere 42 pull type combine is great. I'll try to deliver it to you when I'm done with it. Which state? I have a 25' deckover trailer which should be just the cat's meow for the delivery to you. kelly

jd6620 & Tom, thanks for the help. I've ordered a manual. Previously I searched for one, but couldn't fine anything. Thanks for your help. kelly

I am in WI. Maybe by the time you are done with it I will have finished enough projects to have room for it. LOL Someday I will come across one and add it to my collection. Right now everything is so high priced I am buying very little. It is fun selling the things you no longer need. Tom

That's fine to get a manual but if your only question is about the header height I can answer that. You run it at a steep angle. Just so the wheels or skids are touching the ground as it flexes across the ground. That way you are not dragging the belts on their return across the stubbles. Less ware on the draper belts and sometimes the drive belt will slip.
