Before someone tells me to get a book I have 2 operator manuals, books for both headers and a parts book all of which went into hiding after a big clean up . I am certain they will show up when I dont need them.lol Anyway when moving my K I noticed it didnt pull correctly going uphill. When I got out and checked , the large pulley inside and to the rear of the left drive tire had spread apart and allowed the belt to become slack and slip. The K does have the variable speed but it hasnt worked in the 10 or so years I have owned it. What causes this and how do I fix it? Thanks for any help Lee.

Did you move the variable speed lever to narrow up the top pulley Lee? Sounds like the bottom is stuck open and maybe the top one lost pressure sitting so the belt loosened up. I'd say you need to get some knockerloose oil in the bottom one to loosen it up so it'll move like it should.

Bolts and stuff wear, as does the belt. All together makes things looser and looser until they are loose. Ive had the bolt on the opposite side of the hyd break.

Did the spring wear on the bottom pulley, or the hyd let go on the top pulley.

Didnt think that setup was very hard to fix, sure is handy on a combine to have variable speed, might want to dive into that whole hog....

That was a common issue on the K combine, when pulling you need to move the variable speed lever forward to tighten the belt, i had to do this quite often! There are plates on each side that will slide on forward or backward and that will help tighten it up a little. They fixed this on the K2 by adding a idler pulley that kept the belt tight wherever the variable speed was at.
