Allis combine

This is off topic but about Old Combines. I found a Newspaper article about how a local dealer Received a Car Load of combines in 1939 and two Farmers of Meager means each bought a New Combine. In our area in Eastern Nebraska farmers were still using Binders & Theashing machines and few tractors so an indivigual owning a Tractor & Combine would be sign of progress. What Combine would be affordable in 1939?? There was an allis Chalmers dealer in the area but others sold lots of things very early years?

those were probably the first version of the 60 that was a 5' cut and then the 40 was made for smaller tractors like the AC B, Farmall F12 and unstyled JD B tractors with not enough power to operate a 5ft. combine

I think that is shop built, they never used power steering like that back then and the drive is pretty hokey but it is an conversation piece.

Thanks - That what my guess was. Almost everyone in the area ended up with a Allis_Chalmers pull type combine.Cleddy
