Corn chopping 2021

Another chopping season in the books, the old 830's pushed 180 loads thorough in 5 days with a few minor breakdowns. We did run both machines on one day close to the farm when we had an extra person. Otherwise we just cut with one. One is a 2 row the one on the deere is a 3 row.

I remember filling silos in the 60's as a kid helping out. We shared equipment with the neighbor so we filled ours, then theirs. We had the largest at 40ft tall. Had to take the pipe down at each silo to go to the next one. We had a one row JD chopper which the neighbor ran with his JD 70, belt driven blower which we ran first with a W9, later a Cockshutt 50 and moved wagons with an H and later a 350. I can remember a number of years being in the mud pretty bad. When I was helping I was moving and unloading wagons. I remember it as a fun time in my life. I have a corn binder and an ensilage cutter so I could still fill a silo if I had one.

I just started today with my 881. Chopped 10 loads. I've never chopped corn like this before. It's so tall and thick I'm having to run the White 2-135 in low gear, mostly with the over/under in low because the tall corn is tipping over and slipping out of the gathering belts. The feed rolls won't pull it away fast enough. I can't even begin to go the distance I usually do to get a load.

I finished on Labor Day last year, but that wasn't normal.

Nice pictures. Good to se nice progress with older equipment.

I started opening fields today with my old Fox Max II. Here's a couple shots from a 45 year old chopper...

We cut a lot of corn with Dads 2-155, that over under worked nice for up and down corn. We usually don't finish until second week of September, but we had no rain for two months, so the corn was going backwards, now we got around 8 inches in the last two weeks, it pretty much all soaked in very little standing water. Here is a picture of Dads 2-155. Its not a red stripe the previous owner put that on.

Just started chopping yesterday. Think we did about 40 or so loads. All on hills, lol. Didn't take any pictures, but here is one from 2020.

Corn did about the same this year on the same field.

Otherwise I have a bunch of videos, lol. Never was clear on how to post those.
