IH 141 harvester-thresher

Always loved the curve of the separator hood. This one is not far from me at all. Dont have room - maybe one of you do.

Not affiliated with seller in any way shape or form - just don't see many of these old girls around anymore.

Looks to be in immaculate shape. So when you swung the unload auger up did you have to bolt it to the bottom of the hopper? Then how did the drive connect?

Looks like the first self propelled combine my uncle had. He drove it home 60 miles. Didn't have much of a road gear either.

I know a guy who used one of those up till the late 90s. He passed in since then but I rode with him once. It was a miserable ride because the engine fan blew the dust and chaff right at the operator. Open station combines are no peach to run after awhile but the 141 was the worst by far.

One of the truly innovative improvements to the first self-propelled combines was the swing back unloading auger even though that one looks pretty crude. The pic reminds me of a neighbor who bought a brand new Mccormick combine in about 1953 or 54. I think it had a 12' header. Dad had a 1950 JD model 55 with 14' header and we often exchanged help with neighbors back in those days. Dad was helping said neighbor cut some very good wheat and kinda got disgusted with the neighbor for cutting so low to the ground. Dad's comment was something like just because he has a brand new combine he can do that. If I cut that low I will have to go down to first gear. Enjoyed those days as I wasn't old enough to do much except drive a tractor plowing or cultivating. I remember riding with the neighbor on his new combine.

That, and a 45 John Deere, are what we had growing up. Spent many hours on the 141 as a kid. I could barely reach the clutch and brake pedals, and couldnt pull the handle to start the header, but as grew older it became second nature to me. It left the farm in 95 or 96, but it had been sitting for 8 or 9 years by then. I know the egnine was put on a saw mill near me, and the rest was either sold for parts or scraped. Ive got a pic of me and my aunt on it the day my dad bought it from the previous onwer. If I can find it ill post it.
