Allis Chalmers 60 and McCormmick 76 input

Hi All,

A local person has both an AC 60 and IH 76 for sale - $750 each.

Both look to be in good condition with additional canvases for the 76 - the AC looks cleaner.

Anyone have any input on these machines, there usefulness for small scale work, ease of fixing and parts and/or things to check out/watch out for?

Decent price?

Pass or buy?

Thoughts appreciated and if I can post images/link from craigslist, let me know as the ad shows the details...

Thanks,

CnB

I think you can still get a lot of parts for the 60 but I doubt anything but used parts from a junk yard for the 76. I own a AC 66 and have bought new parts, including a rubberized top canvass. AC combines were good machines, I don't know about the IH machines.

My Dad and I ran IH pull machines- a 64 and an 76. We thought they were good machines until we came across an AC 66. The 66, even with a smaller cut, would outperform the IH and took less power to operate. Both the IH and AC were PTO driven. The AC would coast down down for a few minutes when the PTO was shut off. The IH machines just stopped with no coasting. In my opinion, the AC's were better combines. Easy to run, easy to adjust, and less trouble.

There were an awful lot of the AC AllCrop machines. A lot are still working. A fellow named Tom Yaz was rebuilding and selling parts for those old machines.

I am an IH guy through and through but i had an Allis 60 and those were just a darn
good combine, hard to beat. Did an excellent job of cleaning and pretty easy to work on.
