IH 1420 combine---removing the top sieve--straw spreader

I am removing the top sieve (chaffer) on my IH 1420 combine. I got the bolts removed and am sliding it out. But I am hitting the straw spreader assembly before I can slide it all the way out. Do I have to remove the straw spreader assembly to slide the sieve all the way out? That would be a bummer.....

Do you have all the bolts and spacers out on the rear of the track enough so it will drop down as low as it can possibly fall ? Any other sheet metal or pans that are easily removable to let it drop down quicker ? On the 1640 we had, ya had to remove the spreader beater off of the drive shaft then it could be gently forced out from under the shafts they hung from.

Thanks for the advice. I got it out.

I had to remove two shields from under the rear hood. And then the straw spreader bevel gear and bracket assembly.

There was just enough room to slip it out under the bottom edge of the rear hood.

I'm posting the directions here, in case anyone else needs advice on doing this job.

Here's how to do it:

1) Remove straw spreader spinner assembly Ref #23

2) Remove shields #1 and #20

3) Remove straw spreader drive belt

4) Loosen two clamps #30, and pull hex shaft out enough to release it from spreader drive bevel gear

5) Remove bolts holding spreader drive gear bevel bracket #26 (3 at top, two at bottom

6) Pull on bottom of bevel gear drive bracket to release it from slot, and remove it in direction to front of combine, while tipping and pulling it downwards.

7) There should be enough room now to withdraw chaffer sieve and clear bottom of rear combine hood.

Not sure on a 1420, but on 1440 and 1680 all I've ever removed is the straw spreader paddles off their shafts and you can wriggle the sieves out.
Not sure why you are pulling them, but its a good time to check the sieves and the lower frames for stress cracks and damage. Also take a close look at the shaker bushings and replace them if you are not sure how old they are.

Been awhile since we had the 1420 but pretty sure we took the spinners off and slide the sieve out. There is a bolt you take out that lets the bottom of the rail down then slide out. 1680 was the same way but did have to take off rubber skirt off to get enough room.
