F2 Gleaner chopper

Thought I might have asked this several years ago. But went back and looked and really didn't ask.

I hope to be harvesting some wheat (since it looks pretty good now) in a few months, and am going to look at another F2 Gleaner to purchase. I want to run a straw chopper on it so that I can spread residue more and, hopefully, don't have as many issues with residue as I doublecrop behind it.

I bought a chopper several years ago, and I think it came off a short-back F2, but don't know what it takes to mount it. I got a plate to direct straw into the chopper, but I'm wondering if it is too short, considering what it came off of. Was told a L2 chopper had a bracket it slid into, and I don't have a bracket for this one.

Anybody got time to "splain" to me? May be a case of "picture is worth a thousand words".

Thanks
Mark

L and M choppers could be slid forwards when not in use. An F or K chopper was held
on by four bolts, removing the front two allowed the chopper to be swung back and
up and held there when not in use. Pretty sure the chopper was the same on long or
short backs, you may need a deflector to direct the straw into the chopper.

I can't remember much for sure. But maybe what I can sort of remember will help. I can't recall if the drive pulley is part of the clutch. I think it bolts on. Then there is a bracket with two pulleys which mount on the right side of the combine. Maybe because I have a forklift, I found it simpler to remove the chopper entirely when not needed. Overall a pretty simple addition/installation. With straw you should have no problem. Corn is where you can get damage, and there are several items which address that.

I use mine in beans and take it off when running small grains cause I want the straw. Just put a pallet on the forks and remove the 4 3/8 bolts and carry it away on the pallet. I find it works best to have my wife help me put it back on. No matter how much you yell at it, the holes don't want to line up. The double pulleys another poster mentioned are the belt tighteners.

Agree with centash takes 4 bolts and the cross plate to direct straw off the walkers down to the chopper. Very simple.

The M and L mount different, on tracks, the F just bolts in 4 bolts.

I believe the choppers are all the same from one F series to another, but I never actually measured. They all mount the same way.

We run an F2, there's no way our machine can simply re-position that baffle to drop straw/bean stubble/corn fodder like the OP is asking about :)

Looks like the rub marks on the chopper (pic), make it fit on the inside of the metal on the combine. Does the deflector plate attach to the front of the chopper?

The spinning blades can be turned for a good surface, but can you tell by the picture if the stationary teeth look good enough to keep?

Thanks
Mark

Yes the chopper fits inside the combine sheet metal/ I believe the baffle plate fastens to both the chopper and the combine sheet metal. You will probably have to get a longer belt if the chopper came off a older shorback f2. guess I haven't paid much attention to the chopping knives on mine. You may have to have everything near perfect due to the volume of straw going through .I only run mine in beans
