Pickup attachment for Massey Harris Clipper 50

I have a Massey Clipper 50 combine that has been great for my small farm. I have seen a few pictures of a pickup attachment that goes in front of the cutter head. I would like to find or build one to harvest things that benefit from swathing rather than direct cutting. Anyone have any information on these attachments? How do they attach, does it use the cutter head belt as power? Anyone have one sitting around somewhere? Thanks

I don't know what the OEM (Massive Harris)may have offered "back in the day", but over the years there were quite a few independent suppliers that made "pickups" that could be adapted to many makes of combines.

GOOGLE "universal combine pickup" or "Melroe combine pickup" or "Sund combine pickup", and there were many more that were a generic fit on a combine cutting platform.

Depending on the brand of pickup unit they may attach a few different ways,, I have both Sund and CASE pickup units, both hook/bolt to the guard or guard mounting bolts,,, early style ones bolted right to the header and required more installation time,, I have a Sund or two left I would sell, depending on what size header you have as I think both of what I have left are 9' as I already sold the 7' units I had may be to large for your machine, about the only thing you would have to figure out is a drive pulley for your header, not a big deal but I doubt you are going to find the exact one made for your machine. The other issue will be where I am and where you are,, NE Wyoming is many times a long ways from some one else needing something. One Sund went East and the man was able to have someone stop by and haul it for him,,

a few shots here of the CASE built pickup I use these days,,

Thanks for the information and pictures. My combine has a 6' head, I will look around to see if I can find some kind of small pickup head, but I might just have to build something myself, might be a good project for next winter. Thanks again.

I may still have a pickup unit for a JD 12A combine,, I do not think I let it go yet,, that might work but NC is a long ways away

That sounds very interesting, would it be possible to see some pictures? The freight would be expensive but I haven't come across many pick up heads down here in NC, especially for an old pull type combine.

Right now its covered up with snow,, but yes I will be glad to get you some pics,, it will need a new draper made as it was missing when I acquired it,,

That sounds great, there is no real rush on my end. I will keep an eye on the forum or you can give me a call when the snow melts, 971-373-5096.

should be able to find it by this time next week if the temps stay with what the forecast is saying, you can send me a email through here if you like also, otherwise I will just post here
