Massey 300 combine

A friend bought (he thinks) a Massey Furgeson 300 combine at an online auction. He doesn't know anything about combines and neither do I. What are the good and bad things about these machines. I don't know what engine it has. It has a cab and a grain header (10 or 12'), no cornhead

If I remember correctly it might have a slant 6 on it for engine. Small combine 2 -3 row tops. Finding a corn head if necessary might be hard. Set up correctly a good small machine. Similar to a K gleaner, 615 IH, 3300 JD in size.

They have a slant 6 chrysler engine, exhaust manifold may leak carbon monoxide if not in good condition. Operator sits very near engine. Mine had a cab, so will trap that carbon monoxide if not careful. That's about the only problem I had.

Could also have a little 4 cylinder Perkins diesel.

Frame can be weak where the feeder house attaches. Also the shaft that holds the variable drive sheave has a habit of breaking off.

My grand father had one. First combine I drove.

I had one. First self propelled combine I ever had. Mine had a 13 foot head and a 3 row narrow. Slant 6 Chrysler engine. I liked it, good little combine.

The Massey 300s are tough combines .I cut my teeth on a 1968 Massey 300.I have TWO 33 corn shead for 30 inch rows and a wide 2 row cornhead , at least 5 grain heads 10ft,11ft, and 13 ft.2 slant 6 massey 300s and perkins 4 cylindar in the 1977 massey 300. when they 1st came out , there was nothing better .. it took 15 yrs for the other makes to catch up .
