9600 John Deere opinions

Just wondering what the opinions are on 9600 John Deere combines. I'd like to upgrade and want to keep a walker style combine.

Does the 9600 have the engine with the water pump problem? There are some JD engines that when the water pump fails it puts coolant in the oil ruining the engine. Neighbor spent almost $30000 replacing the engine on a JD combine.

You need to post this question over at newagtalk were there is a lot more guys that have experience running these newer combines. The one we had never gave us any major problems. The only bearings that went out were on the fan shaft. I have a neighbor that bought the first one that came in all the way back in 1989. They just traded it off this year. Hard to believe those combines are coming on 30 years old.

While operating a 9600 for 15 days during this past wheat harvest, the only thing I remember causing any downtime was when the bolts sheared on the sickle drive. Took about 30 minutes to fix.

Lots of Deere 9600 in service in this area. Pretty reliable older machine. Pretty much can't go wrong. Good old 466 engine in them.
