when to change rasp bars

hi guys,
Maybe someone on this forum could help me with this problem. I have a NH rotary tr99 that isn't doing a great job on cleaning off all the corn on the cobs. I asked my dealer how do you know if a combine needs new rasp bars?He couldn't give me a definitive answer!!So my question is just when should they be changed? When I first got the machine, used a few years back, it did a great job on corn.Rasp bars don't look too worn to me. Any help is very much appreciated Thanks

I was always told if you pencil in the groove of the and see the pencil is higher then the groove it is time to replace the bars. Also if the heads of the bolts are worn down it is time to replace them.

Different brand of combine so don't know if it applies to yours, but thry kinda say if you are asking, you shoulda changed them last year.... if the
front edges of the rasp are rounded much at all, it's loosing it's pulling in and thrashing capacity.

I?m pretty sure you can buy a little tool from the dealer for $15-
$20 that?s used to gauge the rasp bars. Are the cobs whole or
empty cobs broke in half?

I'm a ih rotary owner and have never seen the inside of a nh but here is what we were told about the specialty rotor in an ih and they said
when the bolt head that holds the rasp bar shows wear it's time to change. These bolts had a small ring around the outside and some raised
markings on The flat part of the head and when these were wore off it was time to change the bars and bolts. And like was mentioned before
rounded edges are way less efficient than the sharp square edge of a new one.

thanks for the reply. I checked the bolt head holding the bars on, found that the bolt head is showing some wear.i will post some pictures later!

mostly whole cobs with a few kernels left. 90% of then are clean!Nice clean sample, just don't like leaving corn in the field with today's depressed prices, we can't afford to leave any!! Thanks for the reply!!

should be set correctly. I harvested corn for about 6 years before this problem happened. Always opened conclaves full open, slowed rotors down to slowest speed they could run at,650rmp,always cleaned corn off, had to hunt to find cobs with corn left on. tried the pencil between the bar ribs, pencil sticks out past ribs
Someone suggested doing that, made sense!
