At some point I will want to replace the Versatile 400 that has the draper.

I see that Hesston had some models (6550, 6555) with a Perkins diesel which appeals to me. Most seem to come with a hay head, not necessarily a draper.

What is the opinion about the Hesston and what is a model number for a draper head for that 6500 series machine?

I don't think the draper heads have model numbers. They can be had in 12, 15, 18, and 21 feet. I have a 6650 with a 15 foot head. It used to have a 21 foot head, but I had trouble if the windrow got rained on. I'm small enough that 15 foot is plenty. I can cut my 30-40 acres easily in a part of a day. The head works well enough, but it is getting pretty shaky. I've been looking for a replacement head, but all of them are getting old enough that they look like mine... These are early 80's machines, getting to be near 40 years old.

(quoted from post at 09:36:31 07/14/18) Will one that came off of a 6450 hook directly up to a 6650?

The mounting brackets are the same, but a 6450 is shaft drive and a 6650 is hydraulic motor drive. Just take a chain coupler and bracket to get it to work

I have an old 6450 Swather with 14ft hay header that I'm still using and have a 65DS 21ft double swath draper header that we no longer use. This header is in real good shape with UII universal pickup real and is shaft drive. Haven't used it in three year so canvases might need replacing ,one for sure. And yes they do have model numbers and parts are easy to get. They are very reliable I if you were interested give us a call. We would part with it very reasonably . But its in Alberta Canada .
