Wheat harvest international 303

Going to try and harvest wheat today with my 303. Trying to figure out how to disable the chopper as the landowner wants to bale straw. Any help would be appreciated

You might think its built into the combine but it isn't. The straw chopper was just an option you or the dealer installed and could be removed. You just need to disconnect the drive and get a loader tractor or fork lift to lower it to the ground after removing the bolts.

G.E., IH combines of that era COULD be ordered with a factory straw chopper that was part of the "rear hood". Note the hole in the "hood" with a four-bolt circle surrounding it where the chopper shaft passed through a bearing.

Drawing is from the "303" parts catalog.

MANY years ago I owned an older "503" with a similar "built-in" chopper setup.

That picture is just how mine is. We started yesterday. We took out 3 bolts on each side and slid down and out the stationary knives and the big curved piece of metal they are on that force the straw thru the chopper. Carried it by myself. Left the rotating part engaged. In kind of just throws the straw to the ground. Not to bad.
