JD 3300 Concave adjuster problem

How does this adjustment work on the 3300? Mine will only open to the 2 mark, about 2 rounds on the crank. It looks like a chain from the hand crank, then shaft and bevel gears until it reaches an open worm drive on side where the calibrations marks and pointer are. What is inside that moves the concave. Maybe a cam? I think something needs greased or oiled. Don't want to crank to hard and break a part. Maybe a small pipe wrench on the worm shaft to help loosen things up? Thanks, LB (3300 is new to me)

When opening the concave FIRST clean out the rock trap. That area gets full of cobs/rock/wood/stuff this will bind the concave opening. Then blow the area out. On each side right against the side panel there is an eccentric cam/linkage that adjusts the concave. Oil it up. Then start the combine and have the cylinder running. The movement helps "shake" things loose. IF it is good and stuck you can use a pipe wrench on the worm shaft. If you look about 2 feet above the warm the shaft is more open so you can get a pipe wrench on it. Be careful and do not horse on it too hard and break come thing. Work it back and forth. They usually will loosen up fairly easily. The little chains get rusty and stiff and cause the crank adjustment to turn hard too. Take them off and soak them in diesel fuel and free them up.

Thanks. Very good information. Was cutting some grass seed and a buildup got on top of the auger at feederhouse. I stopped and got most of it off but when I started up again was still had enough to pull a slug in and lock up. I had enough seed so just parked inside and get it free later. Maybe being bound up is affecting the opening up of concave? Thanks again. LB

If you have the concave/cylinder plugged it will open very hard. Do not open it all of the way and try to run the plug through. If it does not go through your screwed. LOL SO leave 5 turns or so to open just in case. The best would be to open the concave and pull the plug out the bottom of the feeder house/rock trap. That way you do not hurt anything by trying to run the plug on through.

Used a small pipe wrench and it started turning pretty easy. Backed the slug out without much problem. Thanks. LB
