gleaner f brakes

hi,
I haven't taken the brakes apart yet but they don't work. the repair manual shows it has brake shoes but the when I look for parts they only list a disc. is there a serial number break or where can I get shoes if I need them?

So far as I remember, all F's had the same brakes. Combination band and disc, like the 170-190 tractors. I just did one side of a 175 tractor last spring, and got the parts from Agco. As I recall, the piston on the combine brake was always corroded, and needed replacing. There was a rubber boot which was supposed to keep it clean, but would disappear!

Parking or turning brake? Most F series I have seen have a drum types parking brake on the transmission input shaft and individual disc brakes on each drive wheel to assist turning.

in the repair manual I can see the shoe like brake for the transmission, but the picture for the wheel brake I only see the shoes and not the disc. where would the disc be?

The F2 had the combo brakes...maybe the F had only band brakes? I suppose I could look- I have 2 F parts machines.

Ks, Fs and K2s had band and drum steering brakes. F2 up to S/N 48200 had band and drum, 48201 and up had disc brakes.

Interesting. I apparently never was around that late of an F2, or for that matter, an F3. I assume if the very late F2 had disc brakes, the F3 did also.

hi tim,
your saying the band around the driveshaft in the transmission is the main brake and the shoe brakes operate like those of a tractor to turn tight right or left?

in the book it looks like there are shoe and drum brakes at the front wheels. it does show a band type brake around the shaft but it definitely is a shoe at the wheel. I just need to take it apart

Trans brake is used as a parking brake only, if the machine is a hydro. The others are steering brakes.
